A Drop of Dust
rocks falling from the heavens,
slime dripping off the moon,
tears shed by the sun,
& silver threads plunging into the sea.
Throughout history, the origins of the Earth were imagined with substances falling from the sky. A Drop of Dust holds a fragment of these cosmic confusions in millimetric form. A real micrometeorite, formed between the Earth and the Above, is suspended inside a glass teardrop. Here, cosmic dust transmutes between endings and beginnings, shifting from pollutant to seed, from the imagined to evidenced, from death to life.
Its enlarged form appears in A Sea from Soot, where dust takes the form of a photographic carbon emulsion.
